Decoupage Clay Flower Pot

Clay pots have always been a wonderful medium for crafts. This decoupage clay flower pot is no exception. This is an easy craft that can be done by just about anyone. You can paint the pot beforehand, or leave it in its original state as in the photos here. Makes a great gift!

You will need:

Seed Packets
Decorative-edge scissors
Terra-cotta pot
Mod Podge decoupage medium (or make your own with our recipe below)
Sunflower seeds

If you make this project we'd love to see it! Just send your photos and comments to the editor and it may get published on this page!

What you do

To make your own decoupage medium, you will need white craft glue and water. Mix white craft glue with enough water to make a thin, paintable solution that is not see through, mixture should be white. If you prefer to purchase your medium, the brand Modge Podge by Plaid is a great choice and available at most craft, hobby, and discount department stores.

Cut out the seed packet fronts, emptying the seeds into separate labeled plastic bags, or plant them. Trim the edges of the seed packets with decorative-edged scissors. Arrange seed packets on the pot, overlapping and cutting tops and bottoms as needed.

Paint back of seed packets with the Mod Podge decoupage medium and press to the surface of the pot. When all of the packets are attached to the pot, coat the entire outside of the pot with decoupage medium and let dry.

Attach some sunflower seeds, arranged like flower petals, onto the pot as desired using decoupage medium as the glue. When dry, give the entire outside of the pot one more coat of decoupage medium. Allow to dry.

Two More Ideas...

Try this same technique using postcards, old stamps, pieces of greeting cards, or images from your favorite magazines.

This decoupage flower pot does double duty as a holder for garden markers, seed packets or small hand tools.
