  • Dating Dos and Don'ts - For five years, I was a single mother with two boys. And even though I was lucky enough to have a steady guy (a single dad) in the picture, questions came up all the time. Was it okay for all of us to sleep over at one of our houses? Should we take vacations together? When this relationship ended and another one began a few months later, I was in uncharted waters again. Based on these experiences and the advice of JoAnn Magdoff, a psychotherapist in private practice in New York, I came up with ten rules for single moms. If you're dating-or want to be but feel nervous about it-keep these tips in mind.
  • Divorce & Living Happily Ever After - Today I was sitting at my son's baseball game watching the love of my life run, hit, catch and yell. The love of my life is my beautiful little boy....Dylan. You can sense a bit of maternal pride here can't you? Dylan is 7 years old and his father and I have been separated/divorced since before he even turned 2. Dylan has no recollection of his father and I ever living together as a cohesive unit and no memory of a family living happily ever after. Or does he?
  • Helping Children of Divorce Through The Holiday Season - What day does Thanksgiving fall on anyway? What about Christmas and New Years? What year is this and who's got the kids for the holidays? You realize you are going to have to go dig out those divorce papers and see what year it is and if it's odd or even and if you get to see your children or if you'll be heading to Grandma's without your kids in tow.
  • How Many Frogs Do You Have To Kiss? - So you licked all the wounds from the divorce, gotten used to the idea of being a Single Mom, so what’s next? For some of us, the very idea of a man in our life continues to be repulsive for years to come. I’m one of the hopeful romantics, however, and that just meant one thing - dating.
  • Seven Ways to Ease Kids' Anxiety When You Date - When their parents date, it creates anxiety in children and teens. The changes and losses they have gone through often cause them to feel jealous and insecure. But it is important to understand that they are struggling with two main feelings.
  • Talking About the Other Parent - Single parents have, in my perhaps biased view, one of the greatest gifts in the world -- the chance to bring their children up the way they want to, without having to negotiate every step of the way with another person. For, no matter how much love exists between parents, it's unlikely that any couple will agree on every aspect of child-rearing.
  • What Does ‘Single' Mean, Anyway? - I am fascinated by the expression ‘single parent.' I was technically a single parent most of the years my children lived at home. At the risk of boring you with my personal stories, I'd like to share my questions and ask for your response.
